Possible articles

Possible articles or LAPI publishing possibilities

Hi all,

I’ve decided to create a forum for any ideas people have for possible topics on LAPI that we could as a team and write up in a form of an article for one of Kews papers. Here are a few possible ideas;

• The main collectors who influenced Kews type collections in South America
• History of a certain collector
• The distribution of type representation at Kew across South America.
• Type representation of certain families at Kew
• Possible digitisation techniques or processes

Please add any ideas!

RE: Possible articles

I have just emailed Aaron Davis about collaborating with him to build his virtual floras into a new scratchpad site. If we provided technical scracthpad support and he & his team give taxonomic content then I think it'd be a great joining of two new technologies (GPI images & scratchpads) to produce an accesible data resource for taxonomists. If this was successful then it would make a great article for a journal, possibly even Kew Bulletin. Would anyone be interested in helping me to assist Aaron & co. if this goes ahead?

On the topic of where to publish does anyone have any ideas? Possible places I've thought of are Kew Bulletin, Kew Scientist, Kew Magazine. Vista is a possibility but then it's been done before and the articles are very short. I think it'd be great to expand away from in-house journals to reach other GPI teams, perhaps the GPI website would post something for us...
